What is Endodontic Treatment?
Root canal treatment, also called endodontic treatment, generally involves removing the nerve tissue (pulp) that has become unhealthy or dead in the center of the tooth. The interior of the tooth is thoroughly cleansed under a surgical operating microscope with specialized instruments and solutions. It is then filled with a special material that conforms to the unique anatomy of your root canal. Finally, the tooth is carefully sealed with a temporary filling material. Your dentist will replace this temporary filling with a permanent filling or a cap (crown).
